paper globe tutorial

I ran across a great tutorial for this paper globe at the Craft Tutorials blog. I'm recreating it here with more photos and longer descriptions. It's a great way to reuse junk mail, old magazines, scraps of pretty paper, scrapbook paper, christmas cards, etc.

Materials:

- pretty scrap paper
- scissors
- circle template or circle punch
- glue
1. Cut 20 circles out of the paper. I've chosen to use a 1 3/8" circle template. Tip: pick a theme or a color scheme to create a cohesive look. For my paper globe, I've chosen to use spa-like greens and blues with an overall organic look.

2. Fold the edges of the circles in, creating a triangle with 3 tabs. For the top of the globe, glue 5 circles together, joining the tabs. Do the same for the bottom of the globe.

3. For the globe's center, glue the remaining 10 circle tabs together. The triangles will alternate, pointing up and down. This will create a ring. (Photo below shows all 3 pieces).

4. Finally, glue the center ring to the top and bottom. If you'd like, use a hole punch and a ribbon to create an ornament. You can even add a dangling piece, such as a interesting paper cutout shape, or a button, or whatever you'd like.

If you create one of these globes, I'd love to see it!!

Do you think magazine scraps would work?

p.s. Sorry about the delay on your brainy whale pendant, I got sick and then I procrastinated. I'm baaaaaad. You should be getting it very soon!

I love this idea! So many scrapbookers out there have extra pieces of gorgeous paper lying around and this is a great way to use it! I think I might link to your post on my blog.
